How to start a career in China
This webinar aims to give current students, recent graduates, and people early in their careers practical tips and inspiration on how to actually get to China after graduating and start a career there
This event is Part 2 of the Young China Watchers and SupChina event series looking at China-focused career paths and the best ways of pursuing them. For this event, we are thrilled to be partnering with Gotoco, a U.K.-based social enterprise that provides funded work-travel and TEFL opportunities in China for European and North American university students and recent graduates, welcoming over 2,000 students to China since 2012.
Moderator Eleonora Di Benedetto will welcome three speakers who followed different routes into fun and successful careers in China. They will discuss their career journeys, tips on how to get started, what they wish they’d known when starting out, and resources for inspiration and information.

Eleonora Di Benedetto
Eleonora Di Benedetto is a BSc International Management & Chinese student at the School of Oriental and African Studies, part of the University of London. She recently completed her final dissertation on China’s "social credit” policy and its impact on the business environment.
During her time at SOAS, she got involved in several China-focused projects. She took part in Gotoco’s cultural exchange and educational programme in rural Guangxi in 2019. In 2020, she participated in the TOChina Summer School and wrote on China’s media representation for the SOAS China Institute, interviewing Kaiser Kuo.
She is currently a SupChina Ambassador, as well as a mentee in the Young China Watchers London mentorship programme.

Julia Voo
Julia is the Global Cybersecurity and Tech Policy Manager in HP Inc’s Strategy and Policy team. She is also a Cyber Fellow at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and leads the team behind Belfer's National Cyber Power Index. Prior to HP Inc, Julia was the Research Director for China Cyber Policy at Harvard where she led a Track II Dialogue on Cybersecurity between the US’ DoD and China’s PLA. A graduate of Harvard Kennedy School's Master in Public Administration program, Julia served earlier at the British Embassy in Beijing where she covered China's cyber and artificial intelligence policy from a commercial perspective, technical standards, and other trade policy issues. She lived in Beijing for seven years with stints at the EU Delegation to China, Carnegie-Tsinghua Centre for Global Policy, and she has spent time at the UK's Cabinet Office.

Anthony Tao
Anthony Tao is currently the managing editor of New York-based media company SupChina. Prior to that, he was the first editor-in-chief of the digital media platform Radii and the founding editor of the news/society/culture blog Beijing Cream. He coordinated the 9th and 10th editions of the international China Bookworm Literary Festival.He also writes poetry, which has appeared in Rattle, The Cortland Review, Prairie Schooner, Frontier, Borderlands, Asian Cha, NPR, and more (read his published work at anthonytao.com). His current major creative project is Poetry x Music, which combines his original poetry with music compositions by Liane Halton; learn more at poetryxmusic.com.

Julian Fisher
Julian is the cofounder of Venture Education which empowers UK education in China. He has sixteen years of experience working in education in China including nearly a decade with Harrow Beijing and the British Council. He is the Vice-Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce in China and Chair of the Chamber’s Education Forum which includes driving initiatives such as Employability Week and the Young Professionals Development Programme. He is also a mentor for Durham University, former president of the China North Entrepreneurs’ Organization and a strategic advisor for the innovative ed-tech platform Globiliti. He graduated with a joint degree in History of Art from UCL and SOAS in 2004 and has a masters in Antiques from UCLAN.
