Transforming your China skills to advance your career in the corporate world
This event is Part 3 of the Young China Watchers and SupChina event series looking at China-focused career paths and the best ways of pursuing them.
At this event, we will hear from several speakers that are currently using their China skills in the corporate world as they share best practices in starting a career with large international companies. Our speakers have worked in industries such as banking, fintech, consulting, media, public relations, and finance, and will answer questions on what it means to work as a China watcher in these fields.

Jinny Yan
Jinny joined ICBC Standard Bank in early 2016 as Chief China Economist and leads the China markets strategy and research team. Her focus is to deliver China macroeconomic and market insights to internal and external stakeholders. Her team launched the Belt and Road Economic Indices, which offers unique insight into China’s increasing connectivity with emerging economies. She also helps stakeholders to understand more about China’s Interbank Bond Market (CIBM), as it opens further to foreign investor access. Prior to joining ICBCS, Jinny was a London-based Senior Economist at Standard Chartered Bank. She covered key China-Europe macro topics with a focus on Renminbi internationalization. Her previous economist roles include covering China based in Shanghai, Europe, and supporting the Chief Economist.

Will Heidlage
Will Heidlage is a director at Protocol where he leads strategic partnerships for the Protocol | China team. Previously, Will was a senior director at BowerGroupAsia, a government affairs consulting firm helping global companies understand and influence policies and politics in Asia. There, he led client services for a portfolio of firms in the health care and technology industries across 26 markets. Earlier, he directed the company’s firm-wide research in northeast Asia. Will is a graduate of Johns Hopkins SAIS and the Hopkins-Nanjing University Center, and he earned his bachelor's from Pomona College. Outside of Protocol, Will is the co-founder and head of the Washington, D.C., chapter of Young China Watchers, which seeks to organize the next generation of China-focused thought leaders. Will lives in D.C. with his wife, dog and cat.

Chenni Xu
Chenni Xu is the head of corporate communications for the Americas region, Ant Group, the fintech company dedicated to providing equal access to financial services, and operator of Alipay. Prior to this, she was Account Director at the Brunswick Group in Beijing, where she lived for nearly 8 years. She has held various strategic communications consulting and research analyst positions in the past, focusing on U.S.-China relations and helping Chinese companies communicate their ‘go global’ strategy. She holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from Columbia University and an MA in International Relations from SOAS, the University of London. Chenni is on the board of NüVoices, an international editorial collective gathering veteran and emerging writers, journalists, translators and artists to celebrate and support the diverse creative work of self-identified women working on the subject of China.

Danny Wang
Danny is the Managing Director at Deloitte U.S. Chinese Services Group and the Audit & Assurance Leader. He is a certified public accountant and a chartered global management accountant with extensive experience in auditing, accounting and SEC reporting. At Deloitte, Danny primarily serves clients in the financial services industry, including SEC registrants, broker and dealers in securities and investment advisors. Danny also serves as the Deloitte U.S. Chinese Services Group audit leader. Prior to joining Deloitte, Danny worked at Bear Stearns as an analyst in the controller’s group
