Join Christopher Marquis, Cornell professor and host of the China Corner Office Podcast, for a live recording featuring guest Virginia Tan, Founding Partner and CEO of Teja Ventures, the first gender lens VC fund for emerging Asia. On October 27th, they will sit down to discuss venture capital and impact investing in China; the global $18 trillion market of female consumers; and how Asia investors are grappling with today’s challenging geopolitical and policy environment.

Virginia Tan
Virginia Tan is the founding partner of Teja Ventures, Asia’s first gender lens venture capital fund, which targets early-stage technology companies relating to the She Economy. She co-founded She Loves Tech, the world’s largest startup competition for women and technology and the Wonder School, a leadership academy for women professionals and entrepreneurs together with Jane Sun, CEO of Ctrip and one of Forbes 100 most powerful women in the world. Virginia Tan is also the co-founder and president of Lean In China, one of China’s leading nonprofit platforms for women with over 100,000 members across more than 25 cities and 100 universities in China, which supports the goals and aspirations of Chinese women.
Virginia was the recipient of the 2020 SupChina Rising Star Award and was named by Fast Company as one of China’s 100 most innovative people in business in 2019.
Christopher Marquis
Chris Marquis is the Sinyi Professor of Chinese Management at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School. Prior to joining Cambridge, he worked at Cornell and for 10 years at Harvard Business School and has held visiting professorships at Harvard Kennedy School, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Peking University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University. Marquis’ current teaching and research examines how the interaction between corporations, governments and civil society lead to socially and environmentally beneficial outcomes, with a particular focus on China. In the fall of 2022 will publish a new book titled Mao and Markets: The Communist Roots of Chinese Enterprise that examines the unique form of entrepreneurship and market development that has occurred in China over the last 40 years. He received a PhD in sociology and business administration from the University of Michigan.
